popula is the most recent project I am working on and one of the biggest event apps worldwide. The description that fits best is probably to call it an event finder. Imagine you visit some friends in a different city and you and your mates want to know whats going on in the city and in the area you’re currently positioned. Popula helps you to find cool events or locations close to you so that you can go there and check out who else is hanging out.
The app works in Germany only. Allthough there are cosiderations to use it worldwide in combination with social event tracking. Our database contains more than 2.5 million events and over 40.000 different locations. This is a lot of information. We run a website which is called openeventnetwork.de. You as an organizer can add your event details via web form and we make sure that it is shared with several website’s event calendars. Websites like local newspapers or city magazines are connected to this data as well.
Besides finding events and locations nearby you can share this events with your friends and create your own news feeds by adding locations and different categories of events to your fav list. This way you create an individual appearance and an easy way of customization. Of course you can search for specific topics, events or locations.
The app itself is build on a CoreData Stack using iOS 5.0 introduced UIManagedDocument. The UIManagedDocument is an object that handles the access to the ManagedObjectContext automatically. Our core technologies make use of categories in addition to NSManagedObjects to create methods that can perform on these generated objects.
